Every gardener has a favorite tool of the trade
Ask a bunch of gardeners what their favorite tool is and the answers will be almost as varied as if you asked for their favorite plant — though we’re not so fickle about tools. Even though I was sort of thrilled to get one for my birthday, it never occurred to me to call it a favorite tool until I heard this gardener do just that. Maybe one of these years I’ll get one for my birthday. I’m likely to love a different plant every day but I’ve kept the same tool in my back pocket for 20-plus years and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. But, I am always tempted to try other gardeners’ favorites to see what all the fuss is about. But since it’s too big to fit in a holster clipped to my front pocket, it might never attain the status of favorite. One of my favorite tools is my Cape Cod weeder from Red Pig Tools(pictured above). It's solid hand crafted construction keeps me confident that I can really work this tool and it will last me season after season. This tool was a lovely unexpected end of season gift from one of my clients last year(Thanks Kary. Another thing that is important to me is that this tool is made here in the U. S. This means I can get it repaired easily by sending it back to Red Pig if it ever were to need it, instead of tossing it into the landfill. This rather horrific looking piece of metal is perfect for weeding grasses out of flower beds and cutting weeds off under the soil.
